The Singapore Committee for UN Women is a non-profit organisation working towards women's empowerment and gender equality in the region. Established in 1999, the organisation originally functioned as a National Committee of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM). In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. As part of this process, UNIFEM merged with other women's entities under the United Nations to form UN Women, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact.

We support programs that provide women and girls with access to education, healthcare, economic independence and a life free of violence and abuse.

In order to achieve this, we undertake a wide range of fundraising activities, membership drives and public education programs and events.

OUR MISSION

We support the general mission of UN Women throughout the region by raising awareness and funding for:

Ending Violence Against Women - by promoting actions to eliminate violence against women, including projects in the areas of: HIV/AIDS, female infanticide, trafficking, forced prostitution, domestic violence, sexual abuse, rape and other various forms of abuse.

Economic Empowerment Programs - to support women in developing livelihood, business and entrepreneurial skills that will enable them to access local, national and global markets. Projects also assist women in gaining access to financial services, technology and information.

Governance and Leadership Programs - to give women and girls a voice and visibility by encouraging their participation in the decision making processes that shape their lives.
